Nari Shakti Puraskarawarded to Ms. Iti Tyagi, Founder of Craft Village for her outstanding contribution to women’s empowerment
New Delhi, March 08, 2019: On International Women’s Day, Ms. Iti Tyagi, Founder of Craft Village has been conferred with “Nari Shakti Puraskar 2018”, the highest civilian award for women in the Nation by govt. of India for her outstanding contribution towards women’s empowerment. Hon’ble President of India Shri. Ram Nath Kovind has presented the award in a glittering ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi today. During this occasion, Ms. Tyagi, said"On women’s day and on receiving this achievement, I want to convey that the first step to empower any society begins with empowering your own self. I urge every woman to come out of their shells and to break the stereotype. Women are the creators of life, and they are capable of anything they want to achieve or do. I have been working with Craft sector for decades, and one of the fundamental facts I have observed in Crafts are integral part of Indian women's life, these crafts has been created out of daily imagination, stories, tradition, ritual, emotions and available resources, one can see immense creativity & innovativeness in them. Creating women & craft reflection of each other, the way a women is complete in itself as creators, so are the crafts.”
Ms Tyagi, along with all the participants met Honourable President & Prime Minister of India, over the two days function organised by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India.
Nari Shakti Puraskar (formally Stree Shakti Puraskar) is the highest civilian honour for women in Republic of India. It is awarded by the Government of India, every year on International Women's Day. It is given underseries of India's national honours conferred on individual women for their exceptional achievement. The coveted award is conferred on those exceptional Women and Institutions who have been working incessantly towards the cause of Women Empowerment. It recognises the spirit of courage of a woman in difficult circumstances, who has established this spirit of courage in her personal or professional life. The award also recognises the pioneering contribution of an individual in empowering women and raising women's issues.
" Ms. Iti Tyagi has set up Craft Village for training and promotion of Crafts of India to the world, and to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities. It provides a platform for learning and sharing rare and exclusive traditional crafts wherein the artisans get a chance to connect with consumers, industry and patrons. Crafts Village has been recognized for its innovative approach in bringing newer talents and connecting traditional crafts with modern consumers."
